Busy, Different December

After a wonderful vacation in Utah, we hurried home to get ready for the holidays. I guess we had so much fun celebrating Thanksgiving that I completely forgot about the traditional advent calendars. At least I was gratified to learn that you all noticed that I didn't send them. I'll try to do better next year. Grandpa reminded me as we were driving out of town, that I had forgotten the calendars, next year I hope he will think of it a little sooner.

We hurried home to get ready for our big Christmas dinner with our seniors. I cooked pork loin roasts they were delicious, next time your here I'll fix one for you. The party was a big success, we worry about next year, the couple who arrange for the club house in Eldorado is moving to California, so we will have to hope they don't move or someone else moves into the moblie home court. The room is cozy and comes with decorations and a Christmas tree. I asked Norma Smurthwaite to decorate the tables, and arranged for a singing group to sing carols while we ate and socialized. I had several people bring the food to go with pork roast. The best part for me was that a couple called and volunteered to come and help us, along with their daughter, who was working on a service project, so by the time we said goodby to everyone, the tables and chairs were put away and the kitchen was all cleaned up. I was surprized to find that my feet did not hurt when I got home. I enjoyed being free to welcome the guests and to visit with them.

The next few weeks got filled up with parties and concerts, I love all the Christmas music, and the fun of getting ready for Christmas. Tami and the kids brought us a Christmas tree and stayed and decorated it. A few days later they all came back to make the gingerbread houses. Dad and I have the whole process down to a science now. We get lots of practice

One of our seniors, a gentleman, had a hip replacement so Dad was busy getting him to the Doctors and to the hospital and of course making several visits to check up on him. He is supposed to come home next Thursday, so we may be in for more opportunities to serve.

Then on the 14th of December it started to snow, I started to make candy and goodies, nothing else to do. I even made little paper boxes for the candies and goodies I planned on taking to the seniors and to our friends. Dad was not going to chance driving out in the snow. The snow kept coming down, and piling up. By tuesday the 23rd I had given up on delivering our goodies. Dad put chains on the little car and we ventured down to the grocery store to pick up a few items for us and the neighbors. Helen Thurston needed some eggs, we couldn't get down her drive way, If you remember she lives back in that forest. It was quite a job to tromp in through the snow and Ice. All the road were terrible, just ruts cut through the ice and snow. We decided to pack up Christmas, the turkey and cranberries and drive over to Tami's and be happy. Tami and family made a wonderful time for all of us. Friday we came back home and the snow started to melt, it was all gone in a couple of days.

Thankyou for all your phone calls and the new "roadmate" or neverlost system. Jeff Bake spent a few hours on Christmas day helping dad learn how to use it. We have yet to try it out. Do you think we can find our way out of the drive way?

New years eve looked kind of quiet for us, we hadn't been motivated to plan a party. Tami 's plans changed so we joined them for a party complete with games, white elephant gifts and noise makers. Ellie even had us make new year resolutions. A good end to a different Christmas.
