This will be a short blog. Most of the month has been taken up getting Dave better from his fall. On Aug 6th he was helping a neighbor cut down a tree. After making a cut he stepped back to observe his work, he backed into a bush and fell backwards down a small incline. Jerry helped him into the back of the Subaru and drove him home. After about an hour he was still in such pain that I took him to the emergency room. Eventually they took an x-ray and discovered he had crushed a vertebra in the lower region of his back. He was in such pain that they kept him over night to help him manage the pain. The next couple of weeks are a blur for Dave, he was on pain killers. Eventually we took away the high powered pills and he is back with us. He still is in a lot of pain but is gradually being able to do a few more things. I think we can sum up the month as time spent at the Doctors and taking small walks around the neighborhood. Anders and Ian have come to our rescue and helped us keep up with the work around the yard. Thanks so very much boys.
In the mean time I helped pack up a couple of our seniors, who were moving across the state, and the country, to live with their daughters. Another sister moved to a foster home in Sherwood close to her son. My group is getting smaller.
By the end of the month Dad was feeling brave enough to fly to Utah to be present for Alex’s talk in church and the farewell party that Sunday afternoon with his extended family and friends from church and the neighborhood. By the way Alex gave an excellent talk. He is ready to be a missionary. We were so happy to be there for the occasion and proud of Alex’s choice to go on a mission. We know he will be a good missionary.
While in Utah we took in a game at Rice Stadium. Alysha was cheering at a game for Bingham high school and their rival Alta. Alysha is a flyer and does a great job. Where did all that flexibility come from?? That girl is amazing. Brittany bless her heart lent us her room so grandpa would have a good bed to sleep on. She just finished decorating it, so we felt very special. Thanks again Brittany.
As you know Megan is taking her Freshman year at Utah State. She was able to get a ride back home for the weekend. It was fun to see her, my but she is getting old and sophisticated. Can one week of school do that for you? Thanks Megan for coming down to see us.
Monday we spent at Bryce’s , Michelle served a lovely dinner and we had a good visit with Devin who is shooting up, and starting high school. Seth is in his first year of Junior high. We went to watch Autumn dance. She is full of energy and always wears a pretty smile. Great kids. We love them.
I hope you noticed all the great pictures I took of everyone. I left my memory card at home in Tigard. The replacement card I bought from Walgreens will not let me down load the few pictures that I did take. Tomorrow I will take it to the store and get a replacement.
Back at home I have spent a lot of time e-mailing Keith and Nicole. Keith’s cancer has taken a bad turn. He has colon cancer, and is very sick. The doctors are not doing any more treatments because of his bad health. They believe that he does not have the strength to take them. I feel so very bad for him. I hope that you will all keep him in your prayers.
We missed driving Rob’s car to Arizona and getting to see Chayce and Brandon, but they are happily settled in school and working hard. Check out the links to rest of the family blogs and see what everyone is doing.
We love you all and think of you constantly. When I’m awake at night I think and pray for you always.
Love Dad and Mom
