December 2014 and January 2015

How time does fly when your being lazy and you have a few good books to read.  Where has this past month gone.

December is a distant memory thank goodness for a few photos to bring it back.

DSC00035    The Bakes were very busy, so we gathered our Christmas tree just as the sun was going down.  We found a good one and were able to carry it home in the back of our new truck.

Ellie is keeping us busy going to watch her swim and Ian is playing basket ball.  We love cheering them on.

We watched the slow progression of the sun to the south.  Winter is here.

My Christmas cactus bloomed on schedule, what a beauty.

Our next door neighbor, Dick Franzke died of Cancer.  A few days later one of the big pines on the borders of his property snapped and fell into our yard.

I talked to Jean and Mark Franzke and they sent some men over to clean it up immediately.  Sadly they have been very busy hauling stuff out of the house.  They are going to sell it; we will see what happens next.

Here are the artists hard at work and the final results.  Every one does better every year.  We wish we could make gingerbread houses with all of you.

January and off we go to Utah.  First stop is a trip to Provo to see Alex and Alysha. It took a committee to hook up Alysha’s new wi fi router. We all went to a Malt shop for dinner.

Thank goodness Brittany was still at home to play a few games with us.

Tuesday evening Bryce came and moved us to his house.  We all waited anxiously for the time to pass so that we could speed to the airport.  A few welcome signs went up.

The parking lots were full so we had to ride the bus to the terminal.

The ride was a bit anxious, but we made it in time.

The signs are up and we are ready.

Here she comes in her bright green coat, our heart beats go up, she is really here.

Hugs all around.  Everyone was pretty happy.

Megan is home.

The ride back to the parking lot is a little more relaxed.

DSC00127

First stop was at the Church Office building to see Megan’s Stake president.  He released her from her mission and took us on a wee tour of the building.

Brothers and Sisters.  How they are all growing up.

Megan gave a wonderful talk and bore a powerful testimony of the Savior and his Atonement.  She brought tears to our eyes, we are so grateful for her honorable service to her Heavenly father.  What joy she has brought to us.

Back home and all the excitement is over.  This is the day that Brandon leaves for Italy.  We understand that he is having a great time.

Dad is back from his cancer treatment.  They spread medicine on all his precancerous spots on his face and ears, then put him under a blue light.  He had to stay in the dark for a couple of days.  He says that the treatment hurt.  His face is a little uncomfortable yet.   After all the scabs come off he should have skin like a baby.

Today his skin looks worse.

Here is a copy of the letter I sent to Anders  telling about our latest adventures.

This has been an eventful week for us.  First Grandpa went to the Dermatologist for a treatment on his face.  He had a lot of precancerous spots on his face.  They gave him a treatment and he came home, and had to stay   out of the light for a couple of days.  His face is all covered with red spots and scabs now.  They say he will be fine in a few days and his face and skin will be like new when he is finished.

I backed out my car from the garage a few days ago and hit one of the maple trees and put a nasty dent into the back of my car.  I took it in so that they could replace the trunk lid.  Since Dad couldn't go out Tami and Ellie came over to take me, to pick up the car when it was fixed.  They stayed for dinner.  That afternoon Grandpa had emptied the ashes from the stove and put the ashes in a plastic bucket  by the door in the garage, next to the furnace.   After dinner we went up stairs to look at some of the items I had boxed up to take to the DI .  Ellie spotted her moms Wedding dress in the closet and decided to try it on, then she tried on the pink dress I had made for Tami for a prom.  She was in the bathroom looking in the mirror. We began to smell smoke, Ellie said it was coming through the heat vent.  We raced down stairs and into the garage.  The bucket had caught fire, and had started Grandpa shoes on fire also.  What a comedy. I raced for the fire extinguisher under the kitchen stove, grandpa for the one in the garage.  Soon Ellie grabbed the fire extinguisher from me and started to put out the fire, but the extinguisher was soon empty.  Grandpa couldn't get his extinguisher to work.  In the mean time I was trying to fill up some pots with water and ;Tami was calling 911. I will always have a picture in my mind of Ellie dashing about in the pink dress grabbing my pots of water to pour on the fire.  I have never noticed how slow the water comes out of the tap!! We soon had the fire out.  The firemen arrived and checked everything out for us.   Thankfully no one was hurt and we didn't loose anything but dad's old work shoes and his beautiful clean niki  shoes.   WE were blessed though with lots of Tender Mercies.  First  Tami and Ellie were here to help us, second I had not parked the car in the garage, so it was not in danger and thankfully we were home to take care of things, last we had the assurance from the firemen that all was well.  .    I don't think grandpa will leave a bucket of ashes in the garage again?????.    We are a sorry pair.

Here is my Scripture for today.  "He who trust in the Lord, mercy shall surround him"  psalm 32:10   I hope I can always be worthy of that mercy and all of you also.
.

Love Grandma and Grandpa

I loved reading your blog!! It makes me so happy that we got to be a part of your January. Your story of the bucket catching fire is funny, but only because it all worked out okay - glad no one was hurt. :) Love to you both!
