Our big road trip began in Hayward Field to watch Ian run. Here he is planning his strategy for the race.
what a beautiful day for a race. I could almost feel the excitement in the air that this stadium holds. Thanks Ian for getting us there.
After the race we headed out on our way south.
The Redwoods did not disappoint us. What a beautiful part of the world. Thank goodness for the folks who fought to save them.
Crescent city makes me believe we are still on the Oregon coast. I love the light houses we found on our way.
Back into the California Redwoods.
Just a few photo stops at the famous places.
Eureka is a fun place to visit. We drove around looking at the well kept Victorian homes. I thought it was a fun place to visit.
We drove on through the red woods down to Fort Bragg. I had hoped to pick up a few pieces of sea glass here. The tide was in,so no luck. Fort Bragg had a big bottling plant here years ago, many of the unused bottles were thrown into the sea, the resulting sea glass washed ashore here.
Locals say that the easy pickings are mostly gone. As the tide was in we were not able to walk around the cliffs to find any remaining pieces. Next time I’ll plan my trip to be here when the tide is out.
II liked this little walk through a ferny dale arched with moss covered branches. Lots of fog here I suppose.
We headed across the coastal mountains to the central California valley. Another beautiful sunny day was ours to explore the shores of Clear Lake. I remember we drove up here, long ago, with our boat. Does any one remember doing that? Unfortunately we couldn’t find a place to stay here so we pushed on through Sacramento. I was impressed with the skyline in that city. Government building I suppose. After a good nights sleep in Lodi [i think] we headed out over the desert to Arizona. Finally we made it to Rob and Kim’s resort.
Rob and Kim treated us royally, with lots of warm sun, lots of good food and drives around to see the sights. The desert is beautiful this time of year. Rob took us on a hike to see the desert, he rode his bike, Kim and Shelby took us on a more leisurely walk among all the flowering cacti. Sunday after church we explored a rock shop full of amazing gems and rocks.
Rob drove us up to Saguaro lake. I am always amazed at nature so much beauty every where you go and so different.
The Colorado, as it leaves Powel lake and starts it’s journey. We leave Arizona for Utah.
through the Grand Canyon. Our next stop Zion’s
A hike to see an overview of the canyon.
What a beautiful place. I had forgotten how stunning the scenery is in Zion’s.
We stayed in Springdale below the park and rode the bus into the canyon to visit the sites and to take a few hikes.
South Jordan just in time to celebrate a birthday. The girls liked Alex’s new ball.
Grandpa and his good looking Grandkids. The boys treated Grandpa to a Rugby game.
Bryce and Michelle took us on a tour of the gardens at Thanksgiving point. The place has changed since we last walked around the garden. It is beautiful.
Every corner blessed us with a pleasing vista
Lunch on the patio topped off our morning.
What fun it was to watch Seth perform in his play. Great Job Seth, we are so glad we were able to see the play.
Next we celebrated Seth’s Birthday. 15 and ready to drive..!!
Autumn getting some nourishment after dazzling us with her dancing. She has become a beautiful dancer, graceful and full of spirit. So glad we came to see.
That is it for April and May.
Love Grandma
